Cambridge-based Da Capo Press just released the paperback edition of GOODBYE 20TH CENTURY: A Biography of Sonic Youth by journalist David Browne. Giant Panther has a copy of the soft cover to give away. Please drop a comment with your favorite Sonic Youth album cover and email address, and I'll pick a winner next week.

Sadly, sometimes all someone wants is what they can get for free. chalk it up to the "that's too much work" mentality.
I happened across your blog by accident & I hope you get some responses.
I would like to point out that you really have no way for someone to conceal their email address from public view.

Hello GP, my first time writing to you. Have been following your old Boston stuff lovingly in the past year, am sorry that it took a guilt-inducing note and Sonic Youth carrot-on-a-stick to prompt me to write with a thank you note (and, yeah, my fave album cover would be Washing Machine). Anyway, I love the blog particularly because I lost all my vinyl in a fire in 1984. So, when I see album covers from Private Lightning or the Rings on my screen for the first time in 25 years, I'm not ashamed to say it, but I get nostalgic tears in my eyes. Thanks, dk

Dickie - It's usually dark and people (not me of course) are usually loaded, but I have been known to shed a tear of nostalgia too when one of my old time favorites is wailing away in front of me. I can distinctly recall having never seen the group Yes around 20 years ago and showing up at the dreaded Worcester Centrum for their Big Generator tour in roughly 1988. They broke into Starship Trooper and I started crying for no reason. I almost never cry. Pretty funny eh? Glad you are enjoying my Jethro Tull imitation (Living in The Past). I get so much joy out of it when somebody stops by and tells me I'm doing the right thing I want to post more. It's really hard when people just cruise through, grab the music, and don't tell us if we are doing the right thing so thank you for saying as much. - John

P.S. The Giant Panther is in charge of the Sonic Youth giveaway, but I know who I'd vote for ;-)...rock on my friend...
